I have a BSc in Computing Studies from the University of East Anglia, where I was also involved in the student television service and was for a time a student member of the Royal Television Society. Graduation followed, and the need to earn a living saw me working as a computer programmer for British Rail and its privatised successors for more than 20 years. 2002 wasn't a very good year for me, as early on I was made redundant, (though thankfully after more than a year, temporarily I am no longer still "resting" as actors have it, though this may cut down on my Wikipedianism!) and towards the end of the year my 80 year old mother was taken seriously ill with heart problems, though fortunately she's much improved now. While I was still working, I was a member of the executive committee of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association of Britain and Ireland, and an employee director of my employer's share ownership trust company. I am also active in my local branch of the Labour Party (UK). Interests: History, stamps and coins, politics, science fiction. |
About me |
On Wiki... |
Since discovering Wiki at the end of January 2003, I have written mostly on the British railway system, the British coinage, British commercial television, and naval battles of the First World War. I am easily distracted, so my train of thought tends to get derailed by another interest, but sooner or later I'll get round to completing everything I've started! My home page at http://www.cartref.demon.co.uk/ may tell you a bit more about me and my interests. |
