January

Redirected from Jan

January is the first month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar with 31 days. It is named for Janus, the Roman god of doors and gateways.

January and February were the last two months to be added to the calendar, since the Romans originally considered winter a monthless period. Although March was originally the first month, January usurped that position because that was when consuls were usually chosen.

The first day of the month is known as Happy new year[?]. The coming of age day since 1948 in Japan is a national holiday on which the nation celebrates those who turn to be the age of 20. The day used to be on January 15 until the year 1999. The day was moved in line with an attemp to lift the economy by increasing consecutive holidays the Japanese government.
