Wireless Valley Communications

Wireless Valley Communications, Inc. is a maker of hardware and software for use with Wireless Local Area Networks[?] and in-building and campus wireless networking. Among its novel ideas are the use of 2-D and 3-D CAD[?] software to design the wireless network within a building.

The company was formed in 1995 as a spinoff by Ted Rappaport[?] and Roger Skidmore[?], respectively a professor and PhD student at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. In 2002, Prof. Rappaport took up a faculty position with the University of Texas at Austin, and unfortunately for West Virginia's hopes of developing its tech industry, the company moved to Austin, Texas with him.

Wireless Valley is a privately-held company, and so its financials are not available, but in an Austin Business Journal[?] article dated January 2002, and online at http://www.traq.com/news_011602.shtml, Skidmore said the company had seven employees and posted a revenue of US$1.5 million in 2001.

The company owns the registered trademark for Wireless Valley®. It has been awarded US software patent 6,442,507, covering techniques for site surveys and site-specific measurement acquisition.
