Wikipedia:Requests for adminship

Here you can make a request for adminship. See Wikipedia:Administrators for what this entails and for a list of current admins.

Current Wikipedia policy is to grant administrator status to anyone who has been an active Wikipedia contributor for a while and is generally a known and trusted member of the community. Most users seem to agree that the more administrators there are the better.

If you want to become an administrator then add your name to the list below. Any user can comment on your request -- they might express reservations (because, for example, they suspect you will abuse your new-found powers, or if you've joined very recently), but hopefully they will approve and say lovely things about you.

If there is general agreement that someone who requests adminship should be given it, then a developer will make it so.

Requests for adminship

  • User:Smith03 Hi everyone I have written for about a month now and think that I contributed a little something to wikipedia. Plus it would look great on my resume when I apply for the city dog catcher:)
    • I'll second that, Smith03's done a ton of stuff in a short time. - Hephaestos 20:41 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Some #: 748 edits in a month, mostly on sports stuff (which, by the number alone, is impressive, as his writing productivity is twice mine). Not sure what he's doing, 'cos the summaries became more and more sporadic.
Just some facts. --Menchi 21:33 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Nominations for adminship Note: Nominations have to be accepted by the user in question. If you nominate a user, please also leave a message on their talk page and inform them about their listing on this page.

  • Jiang has made about 1600 edits in 3 months, mostly on politics with continuous neutrality. When engaged in discussions, the Wikipedian responds or questions patiently with factual information and logical opinions derived from such sources. FearÉIREANN, our resident expert and admin on English and Irish politics and history, can attest to Jiang's competence in areas of European royalty naming. Jiang has became progressively more involved in Wikipedia and have thus noticed a number of significant errors on WP, some of which can be corrected as a non-admin, but many others cannot. I could only help him with the articles I already watchlisted months ago, so whatever else assistance he requires, I would not know -- some of which may remain undiscovered for weeks, if not months by other admins. So, for his objectivity and knowledge, I nominate Jiang for administership. He can use it well. --Menchi 10:28 6 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Well, I used to live in Cupertino, and I went to Berkeley, so that's good enough for me. I second. :) --Dante Alighieri 19:58 6 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • I enthusiastically back Jiang's nomination. He has been an excellent contributor; thorough, expert, serious. He would name a superb sysop and has my full backing. FearÉIREANN 22:48 6 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Recently created admins (most recent first)

  • User:Bdesham -- I've been active for around 10 months or so. As far as I can tell, I've been a good citizen during that time, and I think that I'd make a pretty good admin.
    • Seconded. Brave enough to make a grammar change in Flatulence. Single-handedly destubified Taps in a nanosecond. I scanned edits. No worries. -- Cimon Avaro on a Pogo Stick 05:47 3 Jul 2003 (UTC)
(Sorry Theresa, sorry everybody. Must set the record straight. Twiddled with my browser with the result that nominating AntonioMartin, wiped our my seconding of Bdesham. Apologize to all involved.)
    • Seconded {and not just because he gave my WikiMoneyfor editing an article I would have edited anyway) Theresa knott 10:17 3 Jul 2003 (UTC)

  • User:PMelvilleAustin - i'm not sure whether i deserve to be an admin or indeed whether i have been a good Wiki user but i can promise that i will be as fair and responsible as i can be if i become an admin.
    • I am glad to have the opportunity to second PMA. He is a competent serious contributor who I think would be a fair, effective and useful sysop and a great addition to the team. FearÉIREANN 01:03 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Support: His edits and copyedits are great. He has added to the intro some of the most fundamental info we overlooked. --Menchi 01:17 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Yes! A very solid contributor. -- goatasaur 04:44 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Yep! He looks alright to me G-Man 20:39 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Quite the "good Wiki user." :) - Hephaestos 20:41 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)

  • User:Phil Bordelon - I realize I've only just recently come back from a long (long) absence, but I feel that my edits and additions have been responsible. I'd like to be able to delete clearly vandalized pages and the like, and I think I've shown an ability to integrate changes, draw things closer to a NPOV, and the like.
    • I'll second you for condensing a 766 page book while including every spoiler possible. -- Jim Regan 01:20 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I'll second Phil too, he's done a lot of good stuff since he's been back from hiatus. - Hephaestos
    • Tertiary seconding. James F. 10:51 25 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Make it so! --mav 09:12 26 Jun 2003 (UTC)
      • Just wanted to say "Thanks," folks. I didn't want to talk about it until my request was accepted or voted down, for obvious conflict-of-interest reasons; I appreciate it greatly. I'll do my best to be a good sysop. Phil Bordelon 03:54 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)

  • User:Ram-Man (creator of Rambot which generated 30,000 US place articles)
    • Simply having a bot that is capable of performing hundreds of edits a minute without those edits showing up in Recent Changes and never once abusing that capability or even making serious mistakes is proof that he is very careful and does not abuse any power he may have. This nomination is long overdue (just for heaven's sake let's never make Rambot an Admin!). --mav 02:33 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded, and agreed about Rambot!. -- John Owens 23:03 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I'll accept, however, I am frequently busy with things like writing and running a bot that I don't often have time for sysop like activities, but I will definitely delete stupid pages that contain only "asdfasdf." -- Ram-Man
    • <sarcasm>I vehemently oppose giving this horrible vandal the privilege of administrator status. His egregious crimes of overloading the 'pedia with US-centric data should get him banned, not created as an admin. Both him and his unholy offspring Rambot should be exiled to Antarctica immediately.</sarcasm> Seriously though, I didn't know he wasn't already an admin. I vote yes. --Dante Alighieri 09:24 25 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Of course Ram-Man should be a sysop! -- goatasaur
    • Yes. -- Infrogmation 04:36 26 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • You're the reason why I can't get anything cool off of "Random Page!" :-P Aside from that, sure, why not? -- cprompt 01:35 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)

  • User:Goatasaur - nominated via this (http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2003-June/004755) mailing list post.
    • I've deleted many pages previously blanked by goatasaur; he should be able to delete them right off the bat. -- Notheruser 18:59 22 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Solid, no-fuss contributor. Koyaanis Qatsi 19:00 22 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seen the name before on recent changes, so probably not on the side of evil. Also, I'm from the Sol system, so all people from the Sol system are probably on the side of good. (If there was such a thing as good and evil, that is.) كسيپ Cyp 19:06 22 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Definately
    • Goatasaur should be an Admin for having a really cool handle alone! But even if Goatasaur had a boring handle I would add my support. --mav 00:31 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
      • While I also support goatasaur for Admin, I would like to point out that despite Mav's obvious affection for his handle, I am a bit more wary... What exactly is this mysterious goatasaur, and do we need to fear a huge herd/flock/etc. of them overrunning the Earth? --Dante Alighieri 09:13 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
        • I don't know what you would call a group of goatasaurs. A "pile" would be apt, as we are quite lazy. -- goatasaur
    • Nthed. -- John Owens 23:03 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Though I am the original nominator via email (because of error messages I could not get to do it via this page) I want to add my support here. Goatasaur is a competent, hardworking, capable user who would in my view make an excellent and valued sysop. FearÉIREANN 23:11 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I would love to be an administrator. Thanks for the support. -- goatasaur 03:31 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
