Convention for Typing Accents/Diacritics in Email

What's a convention, like SAMPA for IPA, for typing accents/diacritics in emails or newsgroups that do not support them? I mean like typing something like:

  • e` instead of è
  • a instead of á
  • ue instead of ü.
