The ancient name of Trapani was Drepanon[?], it's placed on the western corner of Sicily, just out into the Mediterranean Sea in the shape of a sickle.
The city has today est. 70,000 inhabitants.
Over the centuries the salt-pans and the salt industries have created a unique environment of great cultural and economic relevance. This route is called Via del sale (the salt road). On this road there are several mills.
Other places of interest in the province include Segesta, Gibellina, Erice, Alcamo, Marsala, Mazara del Vallo and Mozia.
