The Nation - Irish newspaper

The Nation was a Irish nationalist newspaper, published in nineteenth century, co-founded by Thomas Davis[?] and Charles Gavin Duffy[?], its first editor. Both were leaders of the unsuccessful 1848 Young Ireland[?] rebellion against British rule. John Mitchel, who later edited the United Irishmen[?] newspaper, originally worked as The Nations leader writer.

The Nation was published on Middle Abbey St. in Dublin. Today, Independent Newspapers publishes the top selling Sunday Independent[?] and Irish Independent from the site. Ironically, The Nations principal rival, the Freeman's Journal, merged in 1924 with the Irish Independent.
