Star Wars (radio)

Star Wars is a 13-part radio drama first broadcast on National Public Radio in 1981. It was adapted and expanded from the film Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope by Brian Daley[?], and directed by John Madden. The series was made with the full co-operation of George Lucas, who donated the rights and allowed the use of sound effects and music from the movie.

Many of the actors involved in the movie were unavailable to reprise their roles (Harrison Ford, for instance, was off playing Indiana Jones), but Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels[?] returned to reprise Luke Skywalker and C-3PO. Han Solo was played by Perry King[?], Princess Leia by Ann Sachs[?], Ben Kenobi by Bernard Behrens[?], and Darth Vader by Brock Peters[?].

The success of the series led to another, 10-part, series based on Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Billy Dee Williams[?] reprised Lando Calrissian, and John Lithgow[?] played Yoda.

As of 2003, only these two series have been made. Both have been released on tape and on CD.
