The Spanish league (Liga) is divided in Divisions. During the season each team plays two times against all the other teams of its division, one time at home and the other in the opponent stadium. First division is the main division.

These are the current divisions:

  • First Division (20 teams)
  • Second Division (22 teams)
  • Second Division B (4 groups of 20 teams each)
  • Third Division (18 groups)
  • Regional Divisions.

The Spanish league teams also compete for a cup competition each year, called the Copa del Rey.

Some names are not the complete and official names. Example, the official name for Real Madrid is Real Madrid Club de Fútbol.
