New London, Connecticut

New London, Connecticut is a town/small city at the mouth of the Thames (pronounced Thames) River on the southeastern shore of the state. New London is home to Connecticut College[?] and to the United States Coast Guard Academy, as well as to the small private secondary school The Williams School[?].

New London is across the river from the town of Groton, Connecticut, home of a United States Navy submarine base and of Electric Boat, aka "EB", builder of nuclear-powered submarines. As world research headquarters of the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, New London and Groton are also therefore the birthplace of Viagara[?], among other drugs.

New London is located on Interstate 95, roughly half-way between New Haven, Connecticut and Providence, Rhode Island. Ferries also transport cars and people between New London and Orient Point, at the northeastern tip of Long Island, as well as Fishers Island, a small island lying closest to New London but belonging to New York State.
