Liliopsida
Scientific classification
Kingdom:Plantae
Division:Magnoliophyta
Class:Liliopsida
Orders

Liliopsida is the botanical class that contains all the monocotyledons. It is thought to be a natural or monophyletic grouping, whereas the "alternate" class, the Magnoliopsida or dicotyledons[?], is thought to be paraphyletic.

The classification here is very much a "splitter" classification compared to the old classifications, and enables the classification system to better reflect cladistic relationships.
