Cyperales

Kingdom Plantae (plants)
Division Magnoliophyta (flowers)
Class Liliopsida (monocotyledons)
Order Cyperales

The Cyperales are an order of monocot flowers, consisting of a single family, the Cyperaceae[?] or sedges. The Poaceae have also been placed here, but are now more often placed in a separate order, correspondingly called the Poales. Sometimes the order is merged into the Juncales.

The water chestnut[?], Eleocharis dulcis[?], is a sedge. It is called in French liseron d'eau, but is neither a liseron nor a chestnut. In Chinese it is called ma-ti, which means horsekick.
