John le Carr�

John le Carr� is the pseudonym of David John Moore Cornwell (born October 19, 1931) in Poole, Dorset, England.

He studied at the University of Berne[?], Berne, Switzerland and Oxford University in England, then for a time taught at Eton College before joining the British Foreign Service.

Le Carr� is the author of a number of Cold War thrillers, notably those concerning the exploits of George Smiley[?]. Two of the novels in the series, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy[?] and Smiley's People[?], were adapted as BBC television series wherein Smiley was played by the actor Alec Guinness.
