Demmin is a district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is bounded by (from the south and clockwise) the districts of Müritz, Güstrow, Nordvorpommern, Ostvorpommern and Mecklenburg-Strelitz, and by the city of Neubrandenburg.
|
The district was established in 1994 by merging the former districts of Demmin, Altentreptow and Malchin.
The Peene[?] river enters the district in the west, runs through a large lake called the Kummerower See (33 km²), and leaves the district to the northeast. The district of Demmin unites parts of the historical regions of Mecklenburg and (Western) Pomerania.
