Burtnieki

Burtnieki district is located in North Latvia. In earlier times, Burtnieki embraced very a wide territory around lake Burtnieks. Burtnieki was mentioned for in the chronicle by Indrikis[?] from Livonia. Burtnieki district in historical documents for the first time was mentioned in 1208.

Burtnieki district is famous for:

Already in 1685 in school list first 15 rural school was mentioned a school of Burtnieki. In this time in the district there is Burtnieki Auseklis Secondary School.

Population: 1,742

Tourists are welcomed to guesthouses at "Kratsmaļi" and "Enksāres" farm as well as the guesthouse at the Burtnieki stud farm and the "Ezerpriedes" campgrounds.
