Bottineau County, North Dakota

Bottineau County is a county located in the U.S. State of North Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 7,149. Its county seat is Bottineau6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,397 km² (1,698 mi²). 4,322 km² (1,669 mi²) of it is land and 76 km² (29 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.72% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 7,149 people, 2,962 households, and 1,954 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (4/mi²). There are 4,409 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.22% White, 0.22% African American, 1.45% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 0.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,962 households out of which 27.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.70% are married couples living together, 4.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.00% are non-families. 31.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the county the population is spread out with 22.20% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 22.30% from 25 to 44, 26.20% from 45 to 64, and 21.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 101.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $29,853, and the median income for a family is $37,701. Males have a median income of $26,728 versus $18,948 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,227. 10.70% of the population and 7.50% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 11.70% are under the age of 18 and 11.10% are 65 or older.
