Wikipedia:Utilities :
Wikipedia:Pages needing attention : Duplicate articles
This is a list of duplicate articles that have been created mostly by mistake. They have to be merged into a single piece of work and one title has to be redirected to the other (or a completely new page is created) in accordance with Wikipedia:Naming conventions and Wikipedia:Canonization. After a pair has been merged, it can be removed from the list.
Consider using the following boilerplate text at the top of articles that need merging:
- ''This article should be [[Wikipedia:Duplicate articles|merged]] with [[ARTICLE]]''
The creation of duplicate articles, and the wasted effort this causes, can be avoided by creating lots of redirects. Also, when creating new articles, search for existing articles on the same subject.
Articles to be Merged
- List of British heritage and private railways and List of heritage railways
- Aberration of light and Astronomical aberration
- slang and colloquialism - both under idiom?
- political model and political spectrum
- Far East Air Force, USAFFE, Philippine Army Air Corps, Philippine Department, USAFFE Headquarters, Offshore Patrol -- need to be rationalised somehow
- pacifism and Non-violent resistance and Non-violence (debated)
- Cultural evolution and Evolution of societies
- Dominant chord and Seventh chord; these aren't really the same thing, either.
- Wayne, New Jersey and Wayne Township, New Jersey apparently the same content. (also other places in Passaic County, New Jersey are duplicated, and also Salem County, New Jersey and who knows how many other counties?)
- I'll be looking into these in the future since I am the one who made them! One will probably just need to be redirected. If someone from New Jersey knows how these work, that would be helpful. -- RM
- St. Albans, Maine and Saint Albans, Maine, similarly Saint Albans, West Virginia and maybe other "Saint" places?
- Deconstruction and Deconstructionism
- Synod and Ecumenical council
- Content management system and Web content management
- Letterbox, Pan and scan and Widescreen
- Pound (currency), British coinage, lot of duplication
- Shogun, Shogunate -- essentially same thing
- List of scripts, writing system, and alphabet all have lists of scripts.
- Tokugawa shogunate and Edo period
- Template metaprogramming is one style of Generics
- Type theory and datatype - we can't merge them but there are a lot of overlaps.
- Open source software, Open source and open source movements - there are alot of overlaps.
- Gaia theory, Gaia Theory and Gaia hypothesis - there is a dispute about merging. Consult Talk:Gaia theory about merging. Also there is Gaia theory (biology)
- Tokyo and Tokyo prefecture; there is no Tokyo city or such.
- holiday and public holiday
- Critical theory (old) and Frankfurt School (newly created, May 2003)
- Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué and Friedrich Heinrich Karl de la Motte, baron Fouqué - both (!) based on the 1911 Britannica
- Conservative and Political conservatism -- both are about politics, but the former should be more general
- Sample, and Sampling (music) -- Cover some of the same ground, Also compare with Sampler and Sampling
- List of Dukes of Parma and List of Dukes of Parma and Piacenza
- Thomas Cardinal Wolsey (first half) and Thomas Cardinal Wolsey (second half)
- Monster, mythical beast and role-playing bestiary --- all three cover a lot of common ground. Might be best to create a new article like legendary creature[?] to concatenate them in.
- Courland and Livonia are both on Courland. Livonia is separate from Courland and needs its own article.
- Pressurized water reactor and Pressurized Water Reactor.
- World War III and World War Three - one was about the US-USSR conflict, the other, a more general anticipation of a new global war. Better to rename and put the historical issues in one place, new issues in another, or use Gigadeath War?
