Wade Hampton Census Area, Alaska

Wade Hampton Census Area is a census area located in the U.S. State of Alaska. As of 2000, the population is 7,028. There is no borough seat.

Geography The census area has a total area of 50,943 km² (19,669 mi²). 44,531 km² (17,194 mi²) of it is land and 6,412 km² (2,476 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 12.59% water.

Demographics As of 2000, there are 7,028 people, 1,602 households, and 1,296 families residing in the census area. The population density is 0/km² (0/mi²). There are 2,063 housing units at an average density of 0 persons/km² (0 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the census area is 4.74% White, 0.06% African American, 92.53% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 2.52% from two or more races. 0.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,602 households out of which 59.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.40% are married couples living together, 20.30% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 19.10% are non-families. 16.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.38 and the average family size is 4.95.

In the census area the population is spread out with 46.60% under the age of 18, 9.70% from 18 to 24, 25.60% from 25 to 44, 13.10% from 45 to 64, and 5.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 20 years. For every 100 females there are 109.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.70 males.
