Pilot Station is a city located in Wade Hampton Census Area, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 550.

Geography Pilot Station is located at 61°56'10" North, 162°53'0" West (61.936050, -162.883403)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²). 4.4 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 25.55% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 550 people, 109 households, and 92 families residing in the city. The population density is 125.7/km² (326.2/mi²). There are 126 housing units at an average density of 28.8/km² (74.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 2.36% White, 0.00% African American, 96.91% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 109 households out of which 61.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% are married couples living together, 22.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 14.7% are non-families. 11.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 5.05 and the average family size is 5.47.

In the city the population is spread out with 48.0% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 10.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 20 years. For every 100 females there are 126.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 105.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $31,071, and the median income for a family is $27,411. Males have a median income of $27,917 versus $16,667 for females. The per capita income for the city is $7,311. 28.7% of the population and 25.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 26.0% are under the age of 18 and 28.1% are 65 or older.
