Unterseeboot 460

Unterseeboot 460 (U-460) was a Type XIV U-boat ("Milchkuh") of the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid down November 30, 1940 by Deutsche Werke[?] of Kiel. She was commissioned December 24, 1941, with Kapitänleutnant Friedrich Schäfer in command. On August 1, 1942, Schäfer was relieved by Kptlt. Ebe Schnoor.

U-460 conducted six patrols. As a supply boat, she avoided combat.

On October 4, 1943, U-460 was sunk in the North Atlantic north of the Azores by depth charges from Avenger[?] and Wildcat[?] (VC-9) of the American escort carrier USS Card[?]. Two crewmen survived; 62 were killed.
