Tokay

Tokay has several meanings, all relating to wine.

  • Originally, it was the Anglicized name for the famed wines of Tokaji.
  • Later it came to be used to refer to wine produced from Muscadelle[?]. In Australia, a style something like that of Tokaji is called liqueur Tokay.
  • Finally, it is the name by which Pinot Gris[?] is known in Alsace. The phrase "Tokay Pinot Gris" is now used to indicate this variety. The idea is eventually to phase out the word "Tokay" altogether.
