Todd County, Minnesota

Todd County is a county located in the U.S. State of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 24,426. Its county seat is Long Prairie6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,536 km² (979 mi²). 2,440 km² (942 mi²) of it is land and 97 km² (37 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.81% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 24,426 people, 9,342 households, and 6,511 families residing in the county. The population density is 10/km² (26/mi²). There are 11,900 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (13/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.54% White, 0.11% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.72% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 1.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 9,342 households out of which 31.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.80% are married couples living together, 6.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.30% are non-families. 26.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.14.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.40% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 24.70% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64, and 16.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 101.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $32,281, and the median income for a family is $39,920. Males have a median income of $28,630 versus $20,287 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,658. 12.90% of the population and 9.60% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.60% are under the age of 18 and 13.50% are 65 or older.
