Silent Night

Silent Night is a popular Christmas carol. The original lyrics of the song Stille Nacht were written in German by Joseph Mohr[?] and the melody was composed by Franz X. Gruber. Supposedly the song has been translated into over 300 languages around the world.

The song was first performed in the Church of St. Nikolaus in Oberndorf[?], Austria on December 25, 1818.

Lyrics

Silent night Holy night
All is calm all is bright
'Round yon virgin Mother and Child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night,
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heav'nly hosts sing Alleluia;
Christ the Savior is born;
Christ the Savior is born.

Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love's pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth;
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
