Schwyz is a canton in central Switzerland.
Together with Uri and Nidwalden[?] it is one of the founding cantons of the Swiss Confederation (Pact of the Rütli[?], August 1, 1291.) The flag of Switzerland is derived from the banner of Schwyz.

Religion: Roman Catholic.
Schwyz is one of the Four Woodlands (Vier Waldstätten, Schwyz, Uri, Unterwalden, Lucerne), located on the shores of the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne.)

NE of the town of Schwyz is the world-famous abbey of Einsiedeln[?].
