A salad is generally a mixture of uncooked vegetables, often lettuce or tomato. Other foods such as pasta, croutons[?], meat (eg bacon) or fish (tuna) are sometimes added to salads.

Some sort of dressing is often added such as vinaigrette or mayonnaise, as well as herbs.

Salads that contain mayonnaise bases are notorious for causing food poisoning.
