Saint Afra

Saint Afra (died 304), allegedly originally a courtesan in Augsburg, sheltered the bishop who had converted her. The authorities of the Diocletian persecution condemned her to burn alive, then burnt her mother Saint Hilaria[?] and her maids Ligna, Eunonia and Eutropia as they interred her in a vault.

The feast of Saint Afra occurs on 5 August.
