Rupert, Idaho

Rupert is a city located in Minidoka County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,645. The city is the county seat of Minidoka County6.

Geography Rupert is located about 5 miles southwest of the city of Acequia. The town is directly north of U.S. Route 30.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²). 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,645 people, 2,024 households, and 1,443 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,073.7/km² (2,779.9/mi²). There are 2,204 housing units at an average density of 419.2/km² (1,085.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 72.65% White, 0.37% African American, 1.17% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 22.69% from other races, and 2.78% from two or more races. 35.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,024 households out of which 38.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% are married couples living together, 12.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% are non-families. 25.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.75 and the average family size is 3.31.

In the city the population is spread out with 31.2% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $25,105, and the median income for a family is $29,423. Males have a median income of $28,070 versus $16,779 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,253. 21.5% of the population and 18.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 29.2% are under the age of 18 and 11.7% are 65 or older.
