Minidoka County, Idaho

Minidoka County is a county located in the U.S. State of Idaho. As of 2000, the population is 20,174. The county's county seat is Rupert, Idaho6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,976 km² (763 mi²). 1,967 km² (760 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.44% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 20,174 people, 6,973 households, and 5,362 families residing in the county. The population density is 10/km² (27/mi²). There are 7,498 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (10/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 78.07% White, 0.26% African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 17.83% from other races, and 2.52% from two or more races. 25.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 6,973 households out of which 38.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.40% are married couples living together, 8.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.10% are non-families. 20.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.87 and the average family size is 3.32.

In the county the population is spread out with 31.60% under the age of 18, 9.10% from 18 to 24, 25.20% from 25 to 44, 20.90% from 45 to 64, and 13.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 99.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $32,021, and the median income for a family is $36,500. Males have a median income of $28,977 versus $19,521 for females. The per capita income for the county is $13,813. 14.80% of the population and 11.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 18.90% are under the age of 18 and 9.00% are 65 or older.
