Pulsing

Pulsing: In telephony, the transmission of address information to a switching office by means of pulses, i.e., signals, that originate from the subscriber, i.e., user, equipment.

Note: Examples of pulsing methods are dual-tone multifrequency (DTMF) signaling, in which a unique pair of audio frequencies represents each of the respective numerals or other characters on a keypad, and rotary dialing, in which dc pulses are generated by a rotary dial. Synonyms key pulsing (when using a keypad), dial pulsing (when using a rotary dial).
