Orthanc

Orthanc is a tower in J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy world of Middle-earth. The tower of black stone stands at the center of Isengard's fortifications. During the initial portion of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it is the residence of Saruman until Isengard is attacked by Ents and Gandalf forces Saruman and Gríma (Wormtongue) out of the tower.

In Tolkien's constructed languages, "Orthanc" had a dual meaning: Mount Fang in elvish and Cunning Mind in Rohan's language.

In Peter Jackson's movie The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers the towers referred to are Barad-Dûr and Orthanc, although in the book The Two Towers the towers are Barad-Dûr and Minas Morgul.
