Northern Ireland Railways

Northern Ireland Railways are the state-owned company who run the railway network in Northern Ireland.

The company runs 225 miles (350 km) of track, NI railways operates two main routes, one is a line between Belfast and Londonderry, and the other is a line between Belfast and Dublin in the Republic of Ireland. But the company also operates several minor lines.

NI railways was formed in 1968 when it took over from the Ulster Transport Authority[?].

Until the 1950s the Northern Irish rail network had around 900 miles (1500 km) of track, but most of this was closed.

The railways in the Republic of Ireland are operated by Irish Rail[?].
