The pnictogens are elements in periodic table group 15 in the Periodic Table. The name is not approved by IUPAC. The group is also known as the Nitrogen Group.

The spelling pnicogen is also recorded. Both spellings derive from the Greek πνίγειν (pnigein), to choke or stifle, which is a property of nitrogen.
