Motacillidae

The Motacillidae are a family of small passerine birds with medium to long tails. They include the wagtails, longclaws and pipits.

They are slender, ground feeding insectivores of open country. They are ground nesters, laying up to six speckled eggs.

There are 54 species in five genera.

• Genus Anthus . 34 species of typical pipits.

• Genus Tmetothylacus . One species, the Golden pipit[?] Tmetothylacus tennelus.

• Genus Motacilla. Ten species of typical wagtails.

• Genus Dendroanthus. One species, the Forest wagtail[?] Dendroanthus indicus.

• Genus Macronyx. Eight species of longclaws.
