Mieczyslaw Karlowicz

Mieczyslaw Karlowicz (December 11, 1876 - February 8, 1909) was a Polish composer, born in the Polish province of Vilna. He may have got his talent from his father, Jan, who was a Polish historian and musician.

Karlowicz studied at Warsaw under Prof. Noskowski and in Berlin with Urban. From 1906 to 1907 he studied conducting with Nikisch[?]. He died when skiing in the Tatra Mountains in an avalanche in 1909.

His music is neo-romantic[?] in style and it is very much like the music of Barry[?] mixed with the darker elements of Curran[?].
