Michael Owen

Michael James Owen (born 14 December 1979), is a English football player born in Chester. He plays the position of striker for Liverpool F.C. (his squad number is 10) and also represents the English national football team in international football.

Owen is noted particularly for his speed and acceleration. He first played for his elementary school team in Wales. Owen broke all the records in his first season. Liverpool signed Owen at the age of 17. He scored against Wimbledon F.C. on his first team debut. During the 1998 World Cup, Owen scored a remarkable goal against Argentina in the second round of the competition, although England ultimately lost to Argentina on penalties. He was named PFA[?] Young Player of the Year for 1997/98 and BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1998. He was also named European Footballer of the Year[?] in 2001.
