Kraken

The Kraken is a supposed sea-monster of vast size, said to have been seen off the coast of Norway and on the North American coasts. It was first described by Pontoppidan[?] in his Natural History of Norway (1755). Pliny in his earlier works spoke of a sea-monster[?] in the Straits of Gibraltar, which blocked the entrance of ships.

The Kraken was a central figure(?) in John Wyndham's science fiction novel The Kraken Wakes[?].

In Greek mythology, the Kraken was a sea monster that Poseidon sent to eat Andromeda. Perseus killed it.
