John Osborne

He was born in London, the son of a copywriter. He was educated at Belmont College[?], Devon but was expelled after attacking the headmaster. He became involved in theatre, initially as a tutor but then as an actor and a manager. He tried his hand at writing plays and submitted his first to George Devine[?] in 1956, Look Back in Anger[?] was an enormous critical success. His next work was The Entertainer (1957), which was another success. On the back of these he went on to write a number of less successful plays and he was accused of wasting his talent. As well as plays he also wrote a number of screenplays, mainly adaptations of his own works he also won an Oscar for his 1963 adaptation of Tom Jones[?]. He acted in a few films, including Get Carter (1971), Tomorrow Never Comes[?] (1978) and Flash Gordon (1980).

He died in Graceland from complications brought on from his diabetes.
