Johan August Sandels

Count Johan August Sandels (1764-1831) was a Swedish soldier and politician, beeing appointed Viceroy of Norway[?] (Riksståthållare) 1818 and Field Marshal in 1824. In the Finnish War (1808-1809) he led the Swedish toops to victory, against the Russian forces, at the Battle at Virta Bridge[?]. These events and others in of the Finnish War were late retold in a series of epic poems by Johan Ludvig Runeberg.
