It features a large sickle superimposed on a hammer. The two tools were chosen as symbols of the working class, symbolising how the different professions were united in their struggle for a worker's utopia.
The hammer and sickle featured prominantly on the Flag of the Soviet Union, and the flags of all satellite countries that made up the Soviet Empire. It continues to be used in surviving Communist countries, such as Vietnam and People's Republic of China.
