Grant County, Wisconsin

Grant County is a county located in the State of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 49,597. Its county seat is Lancaster6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,065 km² (1,183 mi²). 2,973 km² (1,148 mi²) of it is land and 92 km² (35 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.00% water.

Demographics As of the census1 of 2000, there are 49,597 people, 18,465 households, and 12,390 families residing in the county. The population density is 17/km² (43/mi²). There are 19,940 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (17/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.23% White, 0.52% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. 0.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 18,465 households out of which 30.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.10% are married couples living together, 7.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.90% are non-families. 26.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.03.

In the county, the population is spread out with 23.70% under the age of 18, 14.60% from 18 to 24, 24.80% from 25 to 44, 21.60% from 45 to 64, and 15.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 103.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.00 males.
