Famous quotations

This page is meant for really famous quotations.
Please submit only quotations by historical figures and from works of art.
Therefore there should also be a page for celebrity quotations.
Perhaps later the page should divert into other categories.
I'd like to propose some rules that would make the layout of this page internally consistent :
  • mark boundaries of entries with ----
  • give
    • the quotation itself - "Veni, vidi, vici"
    • the author of quotation or to whom it is ascribed - Julius Caesar
    • who, when and where reported it - Plutarch in "Life of Julius Caesar"
    • context - Julius Caesar said the words in his letter to his friend Amatius reporting his quick victory over the king of Pont

Please supply an English translation, too.
