Enkhuizen

Enkhuizen (population: 17,069) is a town in the north-western Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The municipality covers an area of 14.31 km² (of which 1.78 km² water).

The municipality of Enkhuizen also includes the following towns, villages and townships: Oosterdijk[?], Westeinde[?].

During summer ferries for pedestrians and cyclists operate between Enkhuizen and Stavoren (mun. Nijefurd) and between Enkhuizen and Urk.

Enkhuizen was one of the harbour-towns of the VOC, just like Hoorn and Amsterdam from where was traded overseas with the East Indies in the Middle-Ages.

Enkhuizen is also the location of the Zuiderzeemuseum[?], an open-air museum reflecting life in the villages around the Zuiderzee during the Middle-Ages. Most of the buildings in the museum come from various locations in the Netherlands like Purmerend and Amsterdam.
