Earls of Norfolk

The Earls of Norfolk were five members of an aristocratic family in England between 1074 and 1306. The founding member was Roger Bigod (died 1107) who came over in the Norman Conquest.
Roger Bigod, 1st Earl of Norfolk
Hugh Bigod (Hugh the Bold) married first Juliana De Vere, then Gundred de Newburgh.
Roger Bigod, 2nd Earl of Norfolk, married Ida/Isabel Plantagenet. He was a Justice at the King's Bench, and one of the sureties for the Magna Carta.
Hugh Bigod, 3rd Earl of Norfolk[?], married Maud Marshal, daughter of William Marshal, in 1207. He died in 1225.
Roger Bigod, 4th Earl of Norfolk, (1212-1270) married Isabella, daughter of William the Lion, King of Scotland, in 1225. There was no issue.
Hugh Bigod, his brother, (died 1266) was Justiciar of England, and father of the 5th Earl. He married first Joanna Bunet, then Joan de Stuteville.
Roger Bigod, 5th Earl of Norfolk (1270-1306), married first Aline Basset, then Alice de Avennes. There was no issue.


The title was granted to the Mowbray family.
