Douglas County is a county located in the State of Washington. As of 2000, the population is 32,603. The county seat is at Waterville.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,788 km² (1,849 mi²). 4,715 km² (1,821 mi²) of it is land and 73 km² (28 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.52% water.

Demographics As of the census1 of 2000, there are 32,603 people, 11,726 households, and 8,876 families residing in the county. The population density is 7/km² (18/mi²). There are 12,944 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (7/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 84.65% White, 0.31% African American, 1.09% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 10.83% from other races, and 2.48% from two or more races. 19.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,726 households out of which 38.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.60% are married couples living together, 9.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.30% are non-families. 20.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.76 and the average family size is 3.16.

In the county, the population is spread out with 29.50% under the age of 18, 8.20% from 18 to 24, 27.30% from 25 to 44, 22.40% from 45 to 64, and 12.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 98.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $38,464, and the median income for a family is $43,777. Males have a median income of $35,917 versus $24,794 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,148. 14.40% of the population and 11.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 21.00% are under the age of 18 and 6.90% are 65 or older.
