Deerfield Residence

Deerfield is the official residence of the United States Ambassador to Ireland, located in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. Until 1922 it had served as the residence of the Chief Secretary for Ireland[?] (in effect the prime minister in the British administration that ran Ireland until 1922).

The building was considered as a possible residence for the President of Ireland in 1938. It was named Deerfield by the wife of a United States ambassador in the 1970s because of the number of deer in the Park. Guests who have stayed there include three US presidents, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton.
