There have been a number of struggles of disadvantaged groups to obtain full civil rights. These include:

The US civil rights movement in the United States
Apartheid in South Africa
Communism in the Soviet Union as relating to freedoms of religion, speech, press, etc.
Rights of women and non-muslims in countries dominated by Islam
Various gay rights movements in countries across the world.
