The City University of New York (CUNY) was organized in 1961 as the umbrella institution of the municipal colleges of the City of New York. It includes:

Original colleges incorporated into CUNY:
Colleges formerly included in the above, now separate institutions:

- Lehman College[?] (formerly the Bronx campus of Hunter College)

CUNY has a graduate School as well as a medical school and a law school.
