Anura

The Order of animals in the class amphibia that includes frogs and toads. Although distinctions can be made between frogs and toads, those distinctions have no scientific status.

The living Anura are typically divided into three suborders.

  • Archaeobatrachia[?] - 4 families, 6 genera, 20 species; includes the tailed frog and midwife toad
  • Mesobatrachia[?] - 5 families, 16 genera, 121 species; includes spadefoot toad, tongueless frogs, Mexican burrowing toad
  • Neobatrachia[?] - 19 families, 309 genera, 3772 species
