The living Anura are typically divided into three suborders.
- Archaeobatrachia[?] - 4 families, 6 genera, 20 species; includes the tailed frog and midwife toad
- Mesobatrachia[?] - 5 families, 16 genera, 121 species; includes spadefoot toad, tongueless frogs, Mexican burrowing toad
- Neobatrachia[?] - 19 families, 309 genera, 3772 species
