Algeciras Conference

The Algeciras Conference of 1906 took place in Algeciras, Spain[?]. The purpose of the conference was to mediate the Moroccan dispute between France and Germany. The Entente Cordiale between France and Great Britain gave Britain a free-hand in Egypt in exchange for a French free-hand in Morocco. France tried to achieve a protectorate over Morocco, but was opposed by Germany.

The mediator Theodore Roosevelt largely found in the French favor, though assured that German investments would be protected.
